In what seems to be a standard exchange between the country’s top constitutional offices, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid President Droupadi Murmu a courtesy visit at Rashtrapati Bhavan. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan,” the Rashtrapati Bhavan posted on X to formally announce the meeting. Photos of the Prime Minister and the President having a cordial discussion while seated in the opulence of the Presidential Palace were included with the social media post.
India’s governance protocol frequently includes such courtesy visits, which enable the Prime Minister to update the President on important national issues or just to preserve institutional unity. Although the meeting’s formal agenda was not made public, it coincides with important national holidays. The visit takes place on December 26 in conjunction with Veer Bal Diwas celebrations, which honor the sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh. On the same day, President Murmu recognized exceptional talent in a variety of fields by bestowing the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar on young performers, including cricket prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
As the first tribal president, President Murmu hosted activities at Rashtrapati Bhavan on December 25, including the publication of the Indian Constitution in Santhali, a significant occasion for her. Later, Prime Minister Modi commended this move on social media, pointing out that it will increase Santhali speakers’ understanding of the constitution. These gatherings frequently take place after significant occasions, holidays, or policy turning points, according to political watchers. Similar polite calls have followed events like international summits, reports on national security operations earlier in the year, and Diwali greetings in October in only 2025.
