Poppy plantation destroyed, drug smugglers nabbed

Security forces along with the Forest Department destroyed 20 acres of poppy cultivation yesterday at Thinghangjang Hill under Churachandpur-PS, Churachandpur district in Manipur. Two huts found at the plantation site were also set ablaze. On the other hand, during an operation in the area between Maukot Village and Singngat of Churachandpur District, a combined team of security forces and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials arrested, two drug smugglers namely Hangkhankap and Khupjamlal.
From their possession, 4.3 kgs of heroin powder contained in 320 soap cases, one four-wheeler Bolero bearing registration no. MN01S-1618, and one two-wheeler Bajaj Avenger bearing registration no. DL10-SH-3331 were recovered. Further, a case has been taken up by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation. Security forces also apprehended one Krishna Mohon Namasudra (55) of Latingkhal Part-II, Jiribam district from his residence along with local DIC liquor and IMFL. From his possession, 20 litres of DIC liquor and 44 bottles, 180 ml each of different brands of IMFL were found.
