The Rajya Sabha on Friday, admitted a statutory resolution moved by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, approving the extension of President’s Rule in Manipur for a further six months. The resolution validates the continuance of the presidential proclamation issued on February 13. With this extension, President’s Rule in the state will remain in effect from August 13.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, in consultation with the Ministry of Cooperation, tabled the resolution as part of the day’s legislative business. The move follows the absence of a stable government in Manipur and the continuing administrative vacuum.
Furthermore, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat announced a procedural shift, confirming that parliamentary papers will no longer be circulated in hard copy to members. All such documents will now be shared digitally with members of Parliament, marking a transition aimed at reducing paper use and streamlining communication.
