Regional Festival of Naga Dance Celebrated with Cultural Fervour

The beautiful dances of Manipur’s Naga tribes, presented by 10 different troupes belonging to 10 different Naga tribes, were showcased during the two-day Regional Festival of Naga Dance organized by the Tribal Area Environment and Culture Development Organisation (TAECDO) in the Tengnoupal district under the sponsorship of the Northeastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India, Shillong.

During the event, Aimol, Tarao, Lamkang, Maring, Chothe, Anal, Monsang, Lamkang, Moyon, and Tangkhul troupes performed their folk dances.

The festival was organized to showcase the rich and vibrant dance traditions of the Naga tribes of the Northeast region, to imbibe the cultural ethos of Naga dances among participants and viewers, and to bridge the knowledge gap by promoting the Northeast region as a hub of dance, especially Naga folk dances in India.

The event aimed to enhance skills in presenting the inherent Naga dances of the NER and to popularize these dance forms among the eight states of the region as well as other parts of the country.

The inaugural session of the program was attended by Mohammed Nazmul Huda Khan, MCS, SDO, Tengnoupal, as Chief Guest; Tomuishang Wairok Maring, Lecturer, Eklavya Model Residential School, Moreh, as Guest of Honor; and M. Piyao Sanyao, Chairman, Kanemram Village, as President.
