The Paomee Welfare Foundation (PWF) has allocated Rs 1.56 lakh in financial assistance through its Medical Financial Assistance (MFA) scheme for Phase I of 2025–26, supporting treatment costs from April 1 to September 30, 2025. Six applications were vetted by the Medical Board and approved by the Board of Trustees, leading to assistance for all applicants. A distribution ceremony was conducted at the Manipur Press Club with notable attendees including PWF Chairperson N. Tombiraj and Secretary Borun Thokchom. Among the beneficiaries, Okram Somendra Singh and Thokchom Anil Kumar each received Rs 30,000 for medical procedures and treatment of chronic conditions, while other beneficiaries received amounts ranging from Rs 9,000 to Rs 19,000 for various health issues. Additionally, PWF reimbursed Rs 36,000 to the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) for prior medical relief provided to journalists, raising the total disbursement for this phase to Rs 1.56 lakh. The MFA scheme, established in 2017, offers financial support to active and retired AMWJU members and their immediate family, funded by interest from a fixed deposit corpus of Rs 80 lakh at the State Bank of India, with distributions occurring biannually.
