Security forces have arrested an active cadre of the banned outfit Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) during a targeted operation carried out in Imphal West district, officials said on Monday.
According to official sources, the arrest was made on December 22 as part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the state. The arrested person has been identified as Kshetrimayum Nilakanta Singh, also known by the aliases Kanta and Mangal. He is 51 years old and hails from Kakching Turel Wangma in Kakching district. Officials said he was also staying at Langjing Achouba Awang Leikai in Imphal West district.
Singh was apprehended from Takyel Kolom Leikai Leirak-6 under the jurisdiction of Lamphel Police Station. During the operation, security personnel recovered two mobile phones and one driving licence from his possession. Officials said these items are being examined as part of the investigation.
Authorities stated that further inquiry is underway to determine Singh’s exact role and level of involvement in activities linked to the proscribed organisation. Security agencies are also looking into his possible connections with other operatives.
In a separate operation on the same day, security forces recovered a cache of arms and communication equipment from the Konaitong and Pelyang hill range under Machi Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The seized items included two improvised mortars and three wireless sets.
