Security forces in Manipur have detained four cadres of the UNLF (P) from various locations within the Imphal West district and seized a truck laden with fish. The apprehended individuals are Borish Sagolsem (25), Herojit Sharma (32), Asem Amar Meitei (20), and Md Salman Khan (35), originating from different districts surrounding Imphal. The cadres had hijacked the truck, which was transporting boxes of iced fish, from the Maharabi-Pheidinga stretch under the jurisdiction of the Sekmai police station.
In addition to the truck carrying the fish, security personnel also confiscated two tipper trucks used to transport the stolen cargo. The drivers and handyman associated with these vehicles—Pukhrambam Mukhesh Singh (23), Waikhom Bijen Meitei (31), and Loukrakpam Shitaljit Singh (32)—were also apprehended during this operation. Authorities have indicated that further investigations are underway to ascertain the full extent of the operation and evaluate any other potential criminal affiliations in the region.
This action follows recent violent incidents attributed to armed groups in the Torbung area of Manipur on December 16. Furthermore, civil society organizations have called for urgent measures against the recent violence. During this operation, security forces also recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including an improvised explosive device (IED), signaling an intensified response to escalating criminal activities in the area.
