Three active cadres of proscribed outfits have been apprehended in separate coordinated operations across Manipur since December 1, security officials confirmed. The detentions are a part of an ongoing push to curb extortion networks and militant activities in the strife-torn state. Security forces apprehended an active cadre of UNLF (K) from Uripok Yambem Leikai under Imphal police station in Imphal West district on Tuesday. The apprehended cadre, allegedly an extortion operative, has been identified as Laishram Pronanjit Singh alias Jit alias Thondonba (25) of Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, Imphal West district.
A mobile phone, believed to have been used for communication related to extortion activies, was seized from him. On December 1, security forces arrested an active cadre of KCP (PWG), identified as Thounaojam Yaima Meitei (40) of Langthabal Kunja Makha Leikai in Imphal West district from his current residence under Singjamei police station in Imphal West district. A mobile phone along with SIM card was seized from him.
In a separate operation on the same day, security forces apprehended an active cadre of RPF/PLA, from his current locality under Waikhong police station in Kakching district. The apprehended cadre has been identified as Thounaojam Subhashchandra Meitei of Wabagai Keirak Achouba in Kakching district. A mobile phone was seized from him. Officials informed that the detentions could provide key leads into wider extortion networks and operational links among insurgent groups active in Manipur.
