Security troops step up their Manipur operations, and 11 rebels are taken into custody

Top Army officers in the area met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and officials here said that eleven rebels had been captured and that weapons and ammunition had been found in Manipur in the last 24 hours. According to sources on Sunday, the security forces have stepped up their search and area domination efforts in several valley and hill regions of the troubled state following the meeting between the governor and three senior Army officers.

The Army, Central paramilitary forces, and Manipur Police significantly expanded their cooperative operations in the fragile, unstable, and militancy-infested districts of the northeastern state, according to a defense spokesman. Eleven more militants from various groups have been taken into custody, and throughout the past 24 hours, weapons, ammunition, cash, and incriminating documents have been found in their possession, according to a Manipur Police official. The official stated that the Army leaders met with the Governor on Friday, April 18, and talked on the current state and northeastern law and order situation.

At Raj Bhavan, the Governor met with three Army officers: Major General Ravroop Singh, Lt. Gen. Abhijit S. Pendharkar, and Lt. Gen. Ram Chander Tiwari. Eleven extremists from the Kangleipak Communist Party, UNLF, PREPAK, UPPK, and KYKL groups were taken into custody in three areas. Among the many crimes they committed was extortion.
