In an effort to make travel easier for people living in hill districts, the Government of Manipur has announced special helicopter services between Imphal and Ukhrul. The Transport Department issued an official press statement on February 9, saying the service has been arranged after considering the urgent travel needs of the public and the growing demand for faster transport between the two locations. According to the announcement, one special helicopter sortie will operate on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, on the Imphal–Ukhrul–Imphal route. In addition, the government is also working to arrange two more helicopter sorties on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, for the same route. Officials clarified that these special services will be operated over and above the regular helicopter schedule so that more passengers can benefit without affecting existing services.
Transport officials said that the decision was taken after receiving repeated requests from residents, government staff, medical patients, and business travelers who often face difficulties while travelling between Ukhrul and Imphal. Road travel between the two places can sometimes take several hours due to terrain conditions, weather disturbances, or traffic-related issues. Helicopter services, though limited, provide a quicker and safer option, especially for emergency travel needs. The government has advised passengers planning to travel by the helicopter service to carry only minimum luggage. Due to aircraft weight limitations, each passenger is allowed to carry a maximum of seven kilograms of baggage. Officials stated that this rule is necessary to ensure safety during flight operations and to allow more passengers to use the service efficiently.
Passengers seeking booking details or schedule-related information have been asked to contact the Nodal Officer for Helicopter Service at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul. The nodal officer can be reached at the contact number provided by the Transport Department for all queries related to seat availability, timing, and other travel-related requirements. Authorities have urged passengers to confirm their bookings early to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
