Two vacant farmhouses owned by L. Somorendro, the head of Hilghat Gram Panchayat, were set ablaze by suspected militants in the Nungkhal area of Jiribam district late Saturday night.
According to police reports, security forces quickly secured the area and launched an investigation to identify the culprits and uncover the motive behind the arson attack. Authorities have yet to release further details.
The incident follows an earlier assault by militants on a nearby village, where explosives were detonated near Borobekra police station early Saturday morning, sparking a gunfight with security personnel.
