SWITCH Mobility launches ground breaking electric buses, pioneers sustainable urban transport

SWITCH Mobility, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, unveiled its latest electric bus platform SWITCH EiV12 for the Indian market. Launched by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the low-floor electric city bus features chassis-mounted batteries with over 400 kWh capacity and can accommodate up to 39 passengers.

Simultaneously, the company virtually flagged off the SWITCH E1 for the European market, which can carry up to 93 passengers. Both buses share a common electric vehicle architecture and are designed with advanced safety features.

Mahesh Babu, CEO of SWITCH Mobility, highlighted the company’s achievement of securing 1,800 orders, indicating strong market confidence. The launch aligns with India’s projected electric city bus market growth, expected to reach 70,000 units by 2030 with a 70% electric vehicle penetration. The buses feature innovative technologies like real-time vehicle health monitoring, CCTV cameras, wheelchair accessibility, and efficient charging interfaces, showcasing SWITCH Mobility’s commitment to sustainable urban transportation.
