Two Assam Rifles personnel k*lled by gunmen in Manipur’s Bishnupur

Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed and another five were injured in an ambush by “unidentified terrorists” in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Friday evening. In a statement , a Defence spokesperson said the attack took place around 5.50 pm, when a column of the 33 Assam Rifles was moving along National Highway 2 in the Nambol Sabal Leikai area. “In the ensuing action, two personnel of Assam Rifles were martyred and five were injured, who have since been evacuated to RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal) and are currently stable,” the statement said.

Assam Rifles identified the personnel killed in the attack as Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung from Happy Valley, Alugodam, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap from Balenaga Ogaguda of Bastar District, Chhattisgarh. The other five jawans who got injured has been identified as Ningthoukhongjam Nongthon of Keibi Khulen,Imphal East, DJ Dutta from Assam Lakhimpur, Havildar BK Rai from Sikkim, LP Sangma from S Momin of Tura, Arunachal Pradesh and Subashchandra Warrant Officer of Uttarakhand. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has strongly condemned the attack on security forces this evening, in which two jawans of the Assam Rifles were killed in the line of duty.

The Governor has expressed profound grief and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the martyred soldiers, acknowledging their unwavering courage and dedication in protecting the Nation. He further conveyed prayers for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries in the incident.
