The Somsai Battalion of Assam Rifles, under Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), organised an Army Ex-Servicemen (ESM) interaction programme at Headquarters 10 Sector Assam Rifles, Somsai, Ukhrul. The initiative brought together 39 veterans from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, reaffirming the enduring connection between serving troops and the veteran community in Manipur’s hill regions.
Deputy Inspector General, Headquarters 10 Sector Assam Rifles, led the interaction and engaged directly with the veterans. The Sector Commander extended a warm welcome, setting the tone for constructive dialogue. Discussions centred on pension matters, medical assistance, documentation support, ECHS facilities, and grievance redressal mechanisms. All concerns raised were carefully noted, with assurance of timely action for resolution, said a press release of IGAR(S).
Among the attendees was Hony Capt James Shimrah, (Retired), 14 Assam Regiment, aged 82, the senior-most veteran present. His participation symbolised the legacy of service and the inspiration it continues to provide to younger generations. The programme fostered trust, camaraderie, and institutional bonds, while also highlighting the importance of veteran welfare in strengthening community ties during a crucial period for Manipur. The event drew together veterans and serving personnel in one collective effort to reinforce unity and mutual support, it added.
