The State PC-PNDT Cell, Directorate of Family Welfare Services and National Health Mission Manipur, jointly organised a Walkathon today as part of the awareness campaign on the occasion of National Girl Child Day, 2026. The event was held under the slogan “Empowering Every Daughter and Building a Stronger India.” The Walkathon was flagged off by Dr N. Bino Singh, Director, Family Welfare Services, Manipur along with the Additional Director and Joint Director of the Directorate. Speaking at the occasion, Dr. N. Bino Singh, Director, Family Welfare Services, Manipur said that the walkathon aimed to spread the awareness about the rights of the girl child, end gender-biased sex selection, promote education and skill development, improve health and nutrition and strengthen safety, protection of the girl child and create equal opportunities for them in every field.
State Nodal Officer, PC-PNDT, principal, teachers and students at Female Health Worker Training school, RD Wing and staff of Family Welfare Services, Manipur participated in the Walkathon. It may be mentioned that the National Girl Child Day is an important observance in India that focuses on protecting, supporting and uplifting every girl child. The day aims to spread awareness about the legal and social rights of girls and to address serious challenges such as gender bias, child marriage, female foeticide, poor nutrition and limited access to education.
