ZUF engages in gunfight with Kuki militants

Naga insurgent group – Zeliangrong United Front (S Kamson) has claimed that its armed wing, the Zeliangrong Tiger Force (ZTF) engaged in a gun battle with Kuki underground outfits while conducting an operation at Kharam Vaiphei village, Sadar Hills in Kangpokpi district today at around 7.40 am. According to a press release of Zeliangrong United Front (S Kamson), at least two/three Kuki underground cadres may have injured seriously in the gunfight. However, cadres of Zeliangrong Tiger Force have reached the camp safely. It said that the action was compelled by serious concerns over the submission of a topographical map in support of the demand for Separate Administration, alleged illicit poppy cultivation, activities along German Road/Tiger Road, establishment of unauthorized camps under the Suspension of Operations (SOO) framework, and other unlawful activities within Zeliangrong Inpui traditional territory.
The ZUF made it clear that it does not oppose the legitimate aspirations of the Kuki people within their recognised native land. However, it firmly asserted that no Kuki land exists within Zeliangrong Inpui ancestral territory. Reaffirming its commitment to protect its people, land, and property, the ZUF warned that any form of encroachment will not be tolerated and those occupying the areas unlawfully should pack their belongings and desert immediately to avoid further escalation.
