A 53-year-old man was shot dead by some armed men while he was working in a paddy field at Govajang village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Saturday evening.
Haokholal Singsit, a resident of Govajang village in the Kuki-majority district, died on the spot, while his wife, Nemneikim Singsit, escaped unhurt.
Villagers told officials that they heard around 20 rounds of gunfire around 4 pm on Saturday. Security forces rushed to the area, and the body has been recovered.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has vehemently condemned the incident and accused the NSCN-IM and ZUF Kamson group for carrying out the killing.
“It is high time the current dispensation relook at the security preparedness of the state to deter these armed Kacha Naga terrorist from runing amok and destabilizing the entire region and to deliver justice for Haokholal Singsit at the earliest,” a statement issued by CoTU said.
Ironically, Govajang village which comes under T. Vaichong Sub-division in Kangpokpi was an area amongst all Kuki-Zo habitations, where Searched and Operations was conducted by Security forces day before yesterday to vet-out chance of such incidents from occurring but these armed secessionist militants, the NSCN-IM and the ZUF Kamson could still operate with impunity.
Therefore, it is high time the current dispensation relook at the security preparedness of the state to deter these armed Kacha Naga terrorist from runing amok and destabilizing the entire region and to deliver justice for Late Mr Haokholal Singsit at the earliest.
