The 74th birth anniversary of noted poet A.K. Seram was observed at Bhanubil, Bangladesh. The program was organized by the Manipuri Library & Research Centre. On the occasion, the “Leichombam Rajendro Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award 2026” was ceremonially presented to Yaiskul Khwairakpam from Manipur.
The commemorative event was held at Luxmi Narayan Mandap, Bhanubil, where 42 literary works of the celebrated poet were displayed. During the function, two books were also formally released: “Thammoigi Manin” written by Ayekpam Anju, founder of the library, and “Bangladeshki Leimaida” authored by Manipuri poet Umabati Athokpam.
The program was attended by several distinguished literary personalities, including Khoirom Kamini, President of the Bisgaon Branch of the Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Sangsad (BANSAS); Rakesh Naorem, Secretary of the Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Manipur; Laiphrakpam Ibungohal Shyamal, President of the BAMSAS Kamalganj Branch; L. Prashanta Kumar, Vice President of the BANSAS Central Committee; and Chingtham Sangeeta. Advisor of the Manipuri Library & Research Centre, L. Jayantakumar Singh, presided over the function.
Delivering the keynote address, Founder Ayekpam Anju stated that the observance of the 74th birth anniversary of his mentor, poet A.K. Seram, was organized to honor his immense contributions toward the promotion of Manipuri language, literature, and culture in Bangladesh.
She noted that more than 40 literary works of A.K. Seram have been published and that the poet’s contributions have been widely recognized by various organizations in both Bangladesh and India through numerous awards and honors.
Speaking at the event, Rakesh Naorem of PAWF, Manipur, remarked that poet A.K. Seram is a significant literary figure among the Manipuri/Meitei community worldwide. He highlighted the poet’s tireless efforts in promoting Manipuri literature across Bangladesh and other regions inhabited by Meitei communities. As a tribute to the birth anniversary, three selected works of A.K. Seram—covering poetry, short stories, and a novel—will be transliterated and published in Meitei Mayek script.
Other speakers also paid rich tributes to A.K. Seram, acknowledging his lifelong dedication and invaluable contributions to Manipuri literature and society.
