On April 26, Mizoram’s Aizawl will host its first International Half Marathon, according to Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar. In addition to an anti-drug campaign among young people, he said, the upcoming event will be organized in collaboration between Innovations India and the Mizoram government to promote health, fitness, and tourism. Additionally, he stated that the international event’s goal is to empower athletes and advance Mizoram and Northeast India in accordance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Northeast development strategy.
He claims that many significant organizations and agencies, including the Sports Authority of India (SAI), NF Railway, the Mizoram Athletic Association, as well as various government departments, public sector organizations, and corporations, support the proposed half marathon event, which is accredited by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). The minister stated that international runners from Kenya and Vietnam have already confirmed their participation in the event, which is anticipated to draw over a thousand runners from both India and outside.
An annual sporting event in Mizoram, the Aizawl International Half Marathon (AIHM) draws runners from a variety of locations and industries. There will be four divisions for the event: a 5 km fun race, a 10 km open race for women, a 5 km juniors race, and a 21.1 km half marathon. The victors will get Rs 10 lakh in awards, which will encourage Mizoram’s growth and euphoria over the world.
