Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth concluded a two-day visit to the Eastern Theatre on Wednesday, reviewing the security situation, operational preparedness and ongoing flood relief efforts across the Northeast.
During the visit, General Seth assessed the readiness of Army formations operating in the region and was briefed on measures being undertaken to maintain peace, stability and support civil authorities amid the ongoing monsoon season.
In Manipur, the Army Chief reviewed the operational preparedness of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) and the Red Shield Division. Senior officers apprised him of the coordinated operations being carried out by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles to ensure security and stability in the violence-affected state.
General Seth also received updates on flood relief operations being conducted by Army formations in the Northeast, where troops have been assisting civil authorities in rescue, evacuation and humanitarian assistance.
Interacting with soldiers deployed in forward areas, the Army Chief praised their professionalism and dedication. He urged the troops to remain vigilant, adaptable and prepared to tackle evolving security challenges while continuing to strengthen peace and stability in the region.
As part of his visit, General Seth attended the opening ceremony of the 135th Indian Oil Durand Cup at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium in Imphal. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh were among the dignitaries present at the event.
The visit concluded with security reviews of the Dao Division and Spearhead Division, where the Army Chief was briefed on the prevailing operational environment and ongoing assistance being extended to the civil administration. Defence officials said the visit reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to maintaining operational readiness while supporting peace, disaster response and development initiatives across the Northeast.
