Bajaj General Insurance Limited has stepped into a new innovation-led segment of healthcare insurance with the launch of Fetal Flourish, a dedicated fetal health insurance rider designed to support advanced in-utero medical interventions and high-risk pregnancies. The product was announced in Pune on January 14 and is priced at an accessible premium of ₹1,025.
Positioned as a breakthrough in prenatal protection, Fetal Flourish is offered alongside the insurer’s flagship products, My Health Care Plan and Health Guard. Unlike conventional maternity covers that focus mainly on delivery and postnatal care, the new rider shifts attention to fetal health during pregnancy. It is applicable for women aged 18 to 45 years and comes with a nine-month waiting period from policy inception.
The rider offers coverage of up to ₹2 lakh per maternity event for the first two maternity events under the base health indemnity policy. It covers 16 specialised in-utero procedures, including amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, fetal tissue biopsy, amnioinfusion, amnio-reduction, fetoscopic laser surgery, fetal reduction, intrauterine transfusion, surgeries for neural tube defects, fetal cystoscopic surgery, FETO for congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and other advanced fetal interventions.
The launch comes as India sees rising pregnancy complexities, with reports indicating that around 17% of women give birth after the age of 35. Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Tapan Singhel, MD and CEO, said the rider aims to reduce financial stress during medically complex pregnancies, allowing families to focus on care and outcomes.
