Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps, inaugurated and formally handed over the Operation Sadbhavana Project “Multipurpose Community Hall and Carpentry & Carving Centre” at Heirok Village, Thoubal District. The ceremony was attended by a gathering of officials, troops, ex-servicemen, and villagers, reflecting the collective aspiration for progress and stability in the region. The newly established Multipurpose Community Hall, strategically located near the village playground, has been designed as a shared space for social gatherings, youth activities, awareness programmes, and community interactions. Equipped with modern facilities including a false ceiling and toilet block, the hall provides a comfortable and hygienic venue for sports training and public events, fostering unity and constructive engagement among the local populace, conveyed a press release issued by PRO IGAR(S).
Complementing this initiative, the Carpentry & Carving Centre aims to harness the traditional craftsmanship of Heirok’s youth. With structured training, modern tools, and market linkages, the Centre will promote sustainable livelihoods, preserve indigenous art forms, and encourage entrepreneurship. Special emphasis will be placed on engaging unemployed youth and women, enabling financial self-reliance and skill development. Lt Gen Pendharkar also interacted with ex-servicemen from Chandel District, expressing gratitude for their selfless service and their role in mentoring the younger generation. The inauguration witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers, women’s groups, and youth, who welcomed the project as a vital asset for community growth and livelihood improvement, said the press release.
