In Imphal, hundreds participate in the Earth Day cyclothon to combat climate change

In honor of Earth Day 2025, a cyclothon with over 300 cyclists passed through Imphal on Tuesday. Under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” the 9.5-kilometer race sought to encourage the usage of bicycles and renewable energy sources as alternatives to fossil fuels. Starting from the Western Kangla Gate, Arun Kumar Sinha, IAS, the Government of Manipur’s Principal Secretary of Forest and Environment, gave the kickoff. In collaboration with a number of regional groups, such as the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association and the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change organized the demonstration.

The gravity of the situation was emphasized by Dr. T. Brajakumar Singh, Director of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change: “The earth can only be protected by our generation. The future of life on Earth is uncertain if we are unsuccessful. We have to embrace sustainable lifestyles and reconsider our development paradigm. Leaders of the community and government representatives also endorsed the event. An adventurer named Joykumar Sharma pointed out that the rally would help get the environmental message out to more people, while Naveen Katlare, Assistant General Manager at the Reserve Bank of India, acknowledged climate change as “a genuine issue” that requires human involvement.
