The Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) MC Unification (KCP-PWG MC Unification) has rejected the “Homecoming Ceremony” organised at Mantripukhri Garrison on July 21, claiming that none of its active cadres participated in the surrender programme.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Chingkheinganba, the outfit alleged that the event, organised by the Assam Rifles in coordination with the Manipur Government, was a “staged surrender” aimed at damaging the organisation’s image.
The group claimed that under the leadership of Chairman Lamyanba Khuman and Vice-Chairman Poirei Meitei, no Central Committee member or active cadre had laid down arms. It maintained that all its members continue to remain with the organisation along with their weapons.
Questioning the identities of those who participated in the ceremony, the outfit alleged that they were either former members who had already been expelled or individuals who had long returned to civilian life. It specifically claimed that former chairman Tam-Nganba (Laishram Ranjit) and several others had earlier been expelled over allegations of indiscipline and misconduct.
The KCP-PWG MC Unification further alleged that the uniforms worn by the participants and the weapons displayed during the ceremony had been arranged by the Assam Rifles to portray the event as a genuine surrender. It also questioned whether the arms exhibited at the programme had actually been handed over to the state authorities.
According to the outfit, the ceremony was intended to create an impression that insurgency in Manipur was nearing an end and that peace had been restored. Reiterating that the event had no bearing on its organisational strength, the group appealed to the public not to be misled by what it described as a “deceptive programme.”
The allegations made by the outfit could not be independently verified, and there has been no immediate response from the Assam Rifles or the Manipur Government.
