Nelly Chacheya, 38, is making waves in the Senapati district’s charming hills with her eco-friendly handicrafts, which include beautiful dolls crafted from leftover vegetable waste. Nelly used to be a florist, but she is now becoming well-known for creating dolls out of silk and corn husks. Her journey started with a straightforward concept: to breathe new life into items that most people discard. She started making dolls that combine creativity and sustainability by using corn silk for the hair and corn peel for the body. “I used corn husk and peel to make corn dolls. I use this corn to make lovely items,” Chacheya said. Every doll is handmade, frequently painted with fine details and embellished with dried flowers. Despite their humble appearance, these items are the result of many hours of work and a refined sense of style.
