The Manipur Cabinet decided to recommend to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla that the state Assembly be summoned for a session beginning September 2.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and Arts and Culture Minister Khaidem Lokesh Singh, along with Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, attended the meeting.
The Cabinet also approved a proposal to establish a Government Medical College at Senapati. The proposed institution will have an annual intake of 100 MBBS students and will include a hospital equipped to meet the requirements of a medical college.
Several measures concerning sports development were also approved. The Cabinet decided to enhance cash incentives for athletes from Manipur who participate in the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. The incentive amounts for athletes competing in the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2026 have been increased to Rs 20 lakh, Rs 10 lakh and Rs 4 lakh for gold, silver and bronze medal winners respectively.
The Cabinet also approved the appointment of L. Shushila Devi as an international-level judo player by promotion to the newly created post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sports). K. Chinglen Sana, an Olympian and Arjuna Award winner, was approved for appointment as Deputy Director (Sports Promotion) in the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, with the rank of Assistant Secretary, to promote sports in the state.
In another decision, the Cabinet approved the formation of a Section 8 government company to mobilise and utilise corporate social responsibility funds for the promotion and development of sports in Manipur.
The meeting also approved enhanced cash incentives for medallists and participants representing Manipur at national and international sporting events.
