Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has appealed against the frequent imposition of bandhs, saying such shutdowns adversely affect the most vulnerable sections of society, particularly daily-wage earners, hand-to-mouth families and students.
The Chief Minister said the government is making every possible effort to address the issues raised by the people and urged all stakeholders to cooperate rather than resort to measures that disrupt normal life.
He particularly expressed concern over the impact of bandhs on students, warning that repeated disruptions could affect their education and career prospects.
Khemchand also highlighted the scheduled visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Manipur in October, describing it as a significant response to the collective efforts made by the state government and 14 civil society organisations (CSOs) that travelled to New Delhi to press for the implementation of the NRC before the Census.
