Manipur CM sees off injured MLA Vungzagin Valte to Delhi for advanced treatment

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh personally saw off Kuki-Zo legislator and Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte at Imphal Airport as he was airlifted to New Delhi for advanced medical treatment following a sudden deterioration in his health condition.

Valte, who had suffered severe injuries during the ethnic violence in May 2023, had been staying in Churachandpur after undergoing long-term treatment earlier in the national capital. According to officials, his health condition worsened on February 7, after which he was immediately taken to Churachandpur Medical College Hospital and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for stabilisation.

The Chief Minister closely monitored the situation through the night and arranged an advanced life-support ambulance along with a medical team from Imphal to be sent to Churachandpur around midnight. Doctors based in Imphal remained in continuous contact with the hospital authorities in Churachandpur through teleconferencing to guide the treatment process and ensure that the MLA’s condition was stabilised before further transfer.

After his condition showed some improvement on February 8, the state government arranged an air ambulance to shift Valte to Medanta – The Medicity Hospital in Gurugram for specialised treatment. Officials said the MLA was moved from Churachandpur Medical College Hospital at around 3 pm under medical supervision and escorted to Imphal Airport by local officials and legislators.

At the airport, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh met Valte and his family members and wished him a speedy recovery, assuring them that the government would provide all possible assistance for his treatment. The air ambulance carrying the MLA departed from Imphal at around 4:30 pm for New Delhi.
