Ajay Kumar Bhalla, currently serving as the Governor of Manipur, is set to be sworn in as the new Governor of Nagaland on Monday, August 25, an official statement confirmed. Bhalla has been given additional charge of Nagaland following the demise of Governor La Ganesan, who passed away on August 15 at a Chennai hospital.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Raj Bhavan, Kohima, according to the official invitation. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio welcomed Bhalla on behalf of the people of Nagaland, expressing confidence that his vast administrative experience would prove invaluable in promoting peace, harmony, and progress across the state. The Nagaland government concluded a seven-day mourning period for the late Governor La Ganesan on Friday. A veteran BJP leader from Tamil Nadu with RSS roots, Ganesan had served as Governor of Manipur, West Bengal, and Nagaland between 2021 and 2025. He was appointed as the 21st Governor of Nagaland on February 12, 2023, and formally assumed office on February 20 the same year.
Bhalla’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Nagaland, as the state continues efforts to maintain stability and foster socio-economic development. His experience in handling administrative responsibilities in the Northeastern region is expected to strengthen governance and enhance coordination between the state and central government.
