Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday emphasised the important role of young people in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat-2047 and Viksit Manipur-2047, urging citizens, particularly the youth, to contribute in their respective fields. Addressing the presentation ceremony of the Governor’s Award, 2026 and Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Awards, 2026, Bhalla said the development goals require the wholehearted participation of people, especially the younger generation. He congratulated the awardees for their achievements, dedication and hard work, noting that awards not only recognise excellence but also inspire others to strive for higher standards. The Governor recalled that the Governor’s Award, instituted in 1998, recognises excellence in academics and co-curricular activities among students of Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya. He also highlighted the Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Awards, instituted in 1983, which honour achievements in teaching, teacher education, nursing, sports, social work, the differently abled category and co-curricular activities. Stressing the importance of holistic education, Bhalla said excellence extends beyond academics, while participation in sports and co-curricular activities helps young people develop confidence, teamwork, leadership skills and a sense of responsibility.
