Manipur Police reject ‘baseless claims’ on social media, confirm militants killed in retaliatory fire

Manipur Police refuted social media allegations regarding an incident on November 11 in Jakuradhor, Borobekra, under Jiribam district, terming the claims “baseless” in a statement issued on Tuesday. The police clarified the situation following accusations against the CRPF and Manipur Police circulating online. According to the statement, the attack began around 2:30 pm, with militants launching a coordinated assault on the Borobekra Police Station’s IDP shelter and a nearby CRPF post using RPGs and automatic weapons, causing damage and setting houses ablaze.

“The Civil Police and CRPF responded decisively,” the statement read. “After 40-45 minutes of intense firing, the situation was stabilized.”Security forces reported recovering the bodies of 10 militants dressed in military fatigues, along with multiple weapons, including AKs, SLRs, INSAS rifles, and an RPG. Police noted that two of the recovered firearms had been stolen from a police armory.

The police emphasized that “the militants were not ambushed but were killed in retaliatory fire by the security forces.” The exchange left CRPF constable Sanjeev Kumar injured, who is currently being treated at Silchar Medical College, Assam. Tragically, two civilians—75-year-old Maibam Kesho Singh and 61-year-old Laishram Barel—lost their lives, and six IDPs remain missing.
