Manipur Police Warn of Legal Action Against Misinformation Spreaders

Manipur Police has threatened to initiate legal proceedings against individuals and social media handles found spreading misinformation or rumors with intent to incite fear or disturb public order in the state. “It has come to our notice that certain messages are being circulated on social media platforms alleging that members of a particular community are planning to attack CHASSAD Kuki Village. The said information is completely false, baseless, and unfounded. Adequate securities are well deployed to avert any eventualities,” the state police force said. “Legal action will be initiated against individuals and handles found spreading misinformation or rumors with intent to incite fear or disturb public order,” it warned.
“Appeal is made to public not to believe in rumor and be vigilant of false videos. The veracity of any circulation of unfounded videos, audio clips etc. may be confirmed from the number- 9233522822 of Central Control Room,” the police force said. “Moreover, there are possibilities of many fake posts being circulated on social media. It is hereby cautioned that uploading and circulation of such fake posts on social media will attract legal action with consequences. Further, appeal is made to public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately,” it said.
Meanwhile, security forces arrested two active members of the banned KCP (MFL) group from Imphal West district of Manipur on Wednesday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangjam Goutam Singh, aged 19, and Diamond Chingshubam, aged 24. Both are residents of Khabi Mamang Leikai in Imphal West. The arrests took place at their respective homes during an operation conducted by security forces. The cadres were reportedly involved in extortion activities in the region, drawing attention from local authorities. The operation was part of a broader campaign by law enforcement to curb the influence of proscribed groups and ensure the safety of residents. The arrests were conducted following intelligence inputs, and authorities acted swiftly to apprehend the suspects before they could evade capture or dispose of evidence.
