Manipur security forces have apprehended two militants in anti-extortion operations

The police in Manipur have detained two militants affiliated with banned organizations, effectively dismantling extortion networks that have been intimidating local businesses and professionals.

Thokchom Yoihenba Singh, a 21-year-old militant associated with the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), was arrested. Prior to initiating his extortion activities, he had undergone 30 days of basic military training, during which he targeted schools, pharmacies, government offices, doctors, and engineers in Bishnupur and Imphal. Singh managed to collect Rs 1 lakh in extortion funds, which he subsequently delivered to his handler within the prohibited group.

Additionally, Sorokhaibam Pari Singh, also known as Ibungo, was apprehended on July 16 and was implicated in various criminal offenses, including kidnapping for ransom, arms trafficking, and facilitating the movement of cadres.
