Massive arms and explosives recovered in twin operations across Manipur

Security forces carried out two back-to-back operations in Manipur and recovered a large cache of illegal weapons, explosives and ammunition from Imphal West and Churachandpur districts.The operations were conducted on February 26 and 27 as part of ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal arms networks in the state.On February 27, a search operation was carried out in Sangaithel Makha Leikai area under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West district. During the search, security personnel recovered one modified .303 rifle without a magazine, two locally made bolt-action single-barrel guns, and four pistols along with magazines.Forces also seized two No. 36 high-explosive grenades without detonators and one high-explosive bomb. Officials said the recovery of explosives has raised serious concern, as such materials could be used for disruptive activities.

In addition, 15 rounds of .303 ammunition with three charger clips were recovered. Eight .303 blank cartridges and one SLR blank cartridge were also seized from the site.The search team further recovered one bulletproof vest fitted with two iron plates, two camouflage helmets and three bags. Officials said the materials were hidden in the area and were recovered based on specific intelligence inputs.In a separate operation on February 26, security forces conducted a combing exercise in the forest area of Thinghijang village under Churachandpur Police Station in Churachandpur district.During that operation, one AK-47 rifle with a magazine was recovered. Forces also seized three single-barrel guns, one bolt-action single-barrel firearm and one bolt-action sniper rifle fitted with a scope.

Seven 7.62 mm fired cartridge cases and two SLR magazines were also found at the site. Officials said the presence of fired cartridge cases suggests that the weapons may have been used earlier.Authorities said the recoveries show continued attempts by armed elements to store weapons in remote areas. Further investigation has been started to trace the source and ownership of the seized arms and explosives.Security has been tightened in sensitive areas of the state. Officials reiterated that operations will continue to dismantle illegal arms networks and maintain peace and normalcy in Manipur.
