Medanta begins work on Rs 500-crore super-speciality hospital in Guwahati

Healthcare access in the Northeast is set for a major upgrade as Medanta has launched construction of its 400+ bed world-class hospital in Guwahati. The Bhoomi Poojan ceremony, held on October 31, was attended by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with Medanta Chairman & Managing Director Dr. Naresh Trehan and Group CEO Pankaj Sahni.

For consumers, the new hospital means easier access to advanced treatments that earlier required travel to metros like Delhi and Mumbai. The ₹500-crore project at Sarusajai Industrial Estate on NH-27 will offer a wide range of super-specialities including transplant services, robotic surgery, cardiac care, neurology, oncology, trauma and emergency support, as well as diagnostics and preventive healthcare. The facility is also projected to generate 5,000–7,000 jobs, benefitting families across the region.

Dr. Trehan said the hospital is being built to ensure world-class healthcare is available closer to home, while Sahni highlighted the region’s growing need for modern treatment and Guwahati’s role as the gateway to serving over 50 million people. Local consumer voices suggest Medanta’s presence in Guwahati will reduce medical travel burden, cut treatment waiting time, and give patients more confidence in seeking specialised care within the Northeast. Community groups also expect improved referral networks and medical support for critical patients from Manipur.
