In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old internally displaced girl who had gone missing over the weekend was found dead in Imphal West district, police said on Monday. The child, originally from Moreh in Tengnoupal district, had been staying with her family at a relief camp in Imphal East after being displaced during the ethnic violence that broke out in Manipur in May 2023.
According to initial reports, the girl went missing on Saturday evening from the relief camp. A search was launched soon after her disappearance. Her body was later recovered from beneath a bridge in the Singjamei area, located a short distance from the camp where she had been residing.
Police officials said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to her death. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and forensic procedures are being followed as part of the probe.
