Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Thursday reviewed the progress of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) and launched the Nikshay Mitra Manipur portal at Raj Bhavan, Imphal. The high-level meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sumant Singh, and other senior officials.
During the review meeting, officials highlighted the progress of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the state, focusing on active case finding, preventive treatment, nutritional support, community participation, and regular monitoring. The state has witnessed significant improvement in TB screening and diagnostic services, including vulnerable population screening, X-ray examinations, NAAT testing, and treatment completion rates.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sumant Singh informed that AI-enabled handheld X-ray devices are being procured to improve early detection of TB cases, especially in remote and inaccessible areas of Manipur. He said the future roadmap includes strengthening district-level implementation, expanding preventive treatment, increasing the participation of Nikshay Mitras and CSR partners, and integrating TB screening with other public health programmes.
After reviewing the programme, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla appreciated the efforts of the Health Department and stakeholders involved in the TB elimination mission. He directed officials to maintain the momentum through effective implementation, regular monitoring, inter-departmental coordination, and greater community participation to achieve the goal of a TB-free Manipur.
