Four active militants from various underground groups engaged in extortion activities throughout the state were taken into custody by the Manipur Police on Tuesday. Two KCP(PWG) group members, Sorokhaibam Amarjit Singh (28), and Ningthoujam Jupiter Singh (27), were arrested at Mahabali by the Porompat Police Station in Imphal East. In the Greater Imphal region, they were allegedly extorting money from state servants, business owners, and members of the public. Five live bullets and a loaded M20 pistol were found in their possession by the police.
In a different operation, Takyel Kolom Leikai under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West saw the arrest of Lourembam Mani Singh (46), an active UNLF group cadre. He was extorting money from different Imphal government offices. Pukhrambam Prem Singh (47), a PLA member, was also taken into custody by the police at Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur District. In Nambol, Bishnupur, and Ningthoukhong, he was stealing a lot of money from the public, entrepreneurs, and government officials. On him, the cops discovered three cell phones, a wallet, and identification documents like Aadhaar and PAN cards.
Meanwhile, during an operation in Mantripukhri Thakurbari, which is under the control of Heingang Police Station in the Imphal East District, the Manipur Police were able to apprehend five active members of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KCP), specifically the City Meitei faction, earlier this week. Laishram Bulu Singh (26), RK Nelson (19), Lairelrakpam Thoiba Singh (27), Kangujam Jebash Singh (28), and Boyamayum Zabirkhan (19) were the names of the young people who had been arrested. The operation to combat the insurgent operations in the area had been going on for a while.
