Record January for Auto Industry as PV, Two-Wheeler Sales Soar

India’s automobile industry recorded its highest-ever January sales, with passenger vehicles (PV), two-wheelers and three-wheelers posting robust double-digit growth, signaling sustained momentum after GST rationalization.
According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), PV dispatches rose 12.6 per cent year-on-year to 449,616 units, while two-wheeler sales jumped 26.2 per cent to 1.92 million units. Scooter sales led the two-wheeler segment with a 37 per cent rise, while motorcycles — accounting for over 58 per cent of volumes — grew 20 per cent. Three-wheeler sales also climbed 30.2 per cent to 75,725 units.
Exports remained strong during April–January, with PV exports up 17.6 per cent and two-wheeler exports growing 23.7 per cent. Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motor India led PV exports, while major two-wheeler makers reported growth despite geopolitical uncertainties.
Retail data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) showed PV retail sales rising 7.22 per cent to 513,475 units in January, driven largely by rural demand, harvest income and the wedding season.
Industry leaders said policy support, improved affordability and strong booking pipelines are expected to sustain growth in the coming months.
