The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, formally inaugurated its newly established gym facility at the Gymkhana. The facility was inaugurated by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, Imphal, in the esteemed presence of Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, Imphal, and Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), RIMS, Imphal. The inauguration marked an important step towards promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle among students, residents, faculty members, and staff of the institute. The gym has been equipped with modern fitness equipment aimed at encouraging regular exercise and effective stress management within the campus. Notably, the facility stands as one of the biggest gymnasiums in a government institute, housed in a G+2 building with a dedicated floor exclusively for yoga and wellness activities.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma stated that since joining the institute two and a half years ago, he has always prioritized physical fitness and well-being. He shared that the idea of establishing a gym at RIMS was initiated despite challenges faced in procuring equipment. Emphasizing that health and time are the most valuable assets, he expressed gratitude to all teams involved and announced that the gym is now fully functional with facilities including badminton courts, cardio sections, yoga spaces, and plans for recruiting trained instructors to support both physical and mental well-being of students, staff, and faculty members.
The event was attended by the Deputy Director (Administration), Chief Account Officer-cum-Financial Advisor, Heads of Departments, faculty members, resident doctors, staff, and students of RIMS, Imphal. The inauguration reflects the institute’s continued commitment to strengthening campus infrastructure and supporting holistic development. The newly inaugurated gym facility at the Gymkhana is expected to serve as a valuable resource for promoting long-term health, fitness, and overall wellness among all members of RIMS, Imphal.
