Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio has assured full support for the revival and development of the historic Kohima Sahitya Sabha (KSS) during a meeting with a delegation of the Kamrup Metropolitan Zila Sahitya Sabha (KMZSS) from Assam.
The delegation, led by KMZSS president Prafulla Barman, met the Chief Minister at Sovima village in Chümoukedima to discuss the revival of the literary institution and ways to strengthen literary and cultural ties between Assam and Nagaland.
During the meeting, the delegation said its visit was aimed at supporting the revival of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha and promoting long-term literary and cultural cooperation between the two neighbouring states.
The members highlighted the historical importance of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha, stating that it was established in 1895 by Rev. Sahitya Charyya Padmanath Gohain Baruah, the founding president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha, while he was serving as a teacher in Kohima.
According to the delegation, the Kohima Sahitya Sabha is recognised as the first office of the Assam Sahitya Sabha and continues to stand as a symbol of the longstanding literary ties, mutual respect and goodwill shared between the people of Assam and Nagaland.
Welcoming the initiative, Rio appreciated the efforts being made to preserve the shared literary heritage of the two states and strengthen their cultural relationship.
Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the cause, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that Nagaland would extend full support for the revival and development of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha. He also said the government would take the necessary steps to facilitate the proposed initiatives.
Rio further emphasised the importance of promoting stronger friendship and sustained literary and cultural exchanges between Assam and Nagaland through such collaborative efforts.
