In a major breakthrough, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police apprehended a wanted People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cadre, who was carrying a bounty of Rs 4 lakh on his head.
The arrested militant has been identified as self-styled Captain Balin alias Thiyam Boycha Singh, from Ushoipokpi in Thoubal district of Manipur.
The successful joint operation was launched following precise intelligence generated by Assam Rifles, which established his presence in Bishnupur district. Security forces initiated a targeted search operation at approximately 5:30 pm, successfully intercepting the accused.
On-the-spot questioning confirmed his identity as Thiyam Boycha Singh, who was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) with a Rs 4 lakh bounty. He is also a key accused in the November 13, 2021, Churachandpur ambush case that resulted in the death of Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his family members and other personnel.
Initial questioning revealed his involvement in PLA activities, including training and prolonged stay at a militant camp in Myanmar, procurement and transfer of war-like stores and linkages with other militant groups.
The apprehended cadre was handed over to Manipur Police at Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district for taking further legal action. This operation underscores the seamless synergy between Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in maintaining peace and regional security, an official statement said.
