School Principal Emerges as Saviour for Struggling Farmers

Farmers of Loukhongpat agricultural area under Khangabok Assembly Constituency in Thoubal District have received assistance to continue double cropping of paddy over nearly 100 hectares of farmland affected by water scarcity. Due to inadequate irrigation water, farmers were unable to cultivate their fields for the second crop. As a temporary solution, a small earthen dam was constructed to store and divert water to the paddy fields, enabling farmers to proceed with double cropping. Dr. Romenkumar Mangang, Principal of K.M. Blooming Higher Secondary School, Khangabok, who is also a social worker, extended support to ensure sufficient water supply to the affected Loukhongpat fields. He stated that around 100 pari of farmland had been facing difficulties due to lack of irrigation, preventing farmers from cultivating their second crop. Following appeals from local farmers, immediate steps were taken to construct a temporary embankment to address the issue.

With the construction of the temporary dam, farmers expressed confidence that they will now be able to successfully cultivate the second paddy crop. The initiative is expected to benefit a large number of farming families in the area. Dr. Mangang expressed hope that Khangabok constituency would continue to set an example in agricultural productivity across Manipur. One of the farmers mentioned that around 100 hectares of farmland, including areas cultivated by Meitei Pangal farmers, had been severely affected by water shortage. The timely intervention and construction of the embankment have brought relief and renewed hope among the farming community. Dr. Romenkumar Mangang’s humanitarian gesture has been widely appreciated by the local residents. Ward Member of Khangabok Part (2) Mayai Leikai, Khundrakpam Surendro Singh, stated that concerns had been raised regarding how to supply adequate water for the second crop. He appreciated Dr. Mangang for his proactive assistance and for addressing the water scarcity issue faced by the farmers. The initiative has been welcomed by the local farming community, who believe it will significantly support agricultural activities and improve crop yield in the region.
