Security forces arrest insurgent cadres, rescue juvenile during operations in Manipur

Security forces and Manipur Police have arrested several alleged members of banned insurgent organisations during a series of coordinated operations carried out across different districts of the state. The operations also led to the rescue of a juvenile who was allegedly being recruited into an insurgent outfit, while another juvenile associated with a militant group was apprehended. According to official sources, security forces conducted multiple operations on June 18 and 19 as part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities, extortion networks and recruitment drives in Manipur. In one operation on June 19, security personnel apprehended a juvenile identified as an active cadre of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) from the Songpi village area under Churachandpur Police Station.Earlier, on June 18, security forces arrested an alleged extortion operative linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), or KCP (PWG). The accused was identified as Wangkhem Premjit Singh alias Kamcha alias Ibomcha (46), who was described by officials as an S/S Captain of the outfit. He was arrested from his residence at Luker Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district.

In another operation conducted on the same day at the ISBT Complex area, security forces arrested an active cadre of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), identified as RK Solomon Singh alias Amon (51), a resident of Thangmeiband Lourungpurel Leikai in Imphal West district.His associate, Thangmeishang Kasar (32), originally from Phange village in Kamjong district and currently residing in Imphal West, was also taken into custody during the operation.Officials said a juvenile who was allegedly being recruited into the RPF/PLA was rescued during the raid. The rescue was described as a significant development in efforts to prevent the involvement of minors in insurgent activities. Security forces later arrested another senior functionary of the RPF/PLA.

The accused, identified as Sarangthem Jayenta Meetei alias Bicky alias Wanglen (48), was apprehended from the Kongba Bazar area in Imphal East district. Authorities said he held the rank of S/S Lieutenant Colonel and was serving as the Director In-Charge of Intelligence within the organisation. During the operations, security personnel seized a cash amount of Rs 2,000, a white Bolero Camper vehicle and other items considered relevant to the investigation. In a separate action on June 19, Manipur Police arrested another active cadre of KCP (PWG), identified as Surensangbam Bungcha alias Winner (46), from Maibam Leikai under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district.
