Security forces recover arms, ammunition and explosives in Manipur’s Kakching

Security forces recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and other military-related equipment during a search operation in Kakching district on Monday, officials said.The operation was conducted in the Wabagai Turenmamei area under Hiyanglam Police Station as part of ongoing efforts to locate and recover illegally held weapons and other war-like stores in the state.According to officials, the security personnel recovered one .303 rifle with an empty magazine, one 9mm pistol with an empty magazine, three single-barrel guns and three carbines, all with empty magazines.

The search team also recovered one 51mm mortar bomb, three tube-launching devices and two hand grenades.In addition, 18 live rounds of ammunition of different calibres were seized from the area. Other items recovered during the operation included an INSAS rifle bayonet and military fatigues. Security personnel also found BP plates, BP covers, communication sets and other miscellaneous military-related equipment. The recovery was made amid continued security operations across Manipur to trace and remove illegally held firearms, ammunition and explosives.

Security forces and police have been conducting search operations at various locations in the state as part of efforts to recover weapons and prevent their further use amid the continuing security challenges in Manipur.
