Security Push in Manipur Hills Leads to Arrests and Seizure of Weapons

In a significant move to stabilise volatile areas in Manipur’s hill districts, security forces carried out coordinated, multi-location operations in the last 24 hours across several sensitive regions, resulting in the dismantling of fortified positions, recovery of illegal arms, and the arrest of a key accused. Under the jurisdiction of Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district, simultaneous operations were conducted in Lengiangching and Mongkat Chepu villages. Security personnel systematically destroyed bunkers constructed by rival groups, rendering them unusable. Officials stated that these fortified structures had been used in recent confrontations, and their removal marks a crucial step toward de-escalation. A large number of spent cartridges were also recovered from the sites, indicating the intensity of past exchanges. Following the operations, authorities reported a noticeable decline in firing incidents. Security forces have since established firm area domination through continuous patrolling and strategic deployment in vulnerable pockets.

In a parallel development, Manipur Police arrested Md Shanjit Khan (38) from Moreh in Tengnoupal district. A resident of Thoubal district, Khan was wanted in connection with an FIR registered at Senapati Police Station in December 2025. Officials described him as a key accused in a serious criminal case, with further investigations underway. Additionally, security forces conducted search and area domination exercises in Tingkhai Khullen and Nepali Khutti areas under New Keithelmanbi Police Station in Kangpokpi district. The operation led to the recovery of a substantial cache of illegal arms and ammunition.

The seized items included a 9 mm carbine with a magazine, two country-made 9 mm pistols with four magazines, multiple country-made rifles, and two improvised mortars. Authorities also recovered 55 rounds of ammunition, seven 12-bore cartridges, and around two kilograms of pellets. Officials emphasized that the recovery highlights the continued presence of illegal weapons in sensitive regions and underscores the need for sustained operations. Authorities reiterated their commitment to restoring normalcy and preventing any resurgence of violence through proactive measures and heightened vigilance
