Senior Manipur Police Officers deployed to Jiribam and Borobekra for search of six missing persons

In a significant response to the recent abduction incident, senior Manipur Police officers, including an Inspector General (IG) and a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), have been deployed to Jiribam and Borobekra regions to oversee the search for six missing persons. According to a police statement, these high-ranking officers are supervising inter-agency coordination and managing resources to intensify search efforts across these areas.

The incident has raised serious concerns, with the women’s wing of the Delhi Meitei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) issuing an urgent appeal for the safe return of the abducted individuals, which include women and children. In their Thursday statement, DMCC leaders urged the government for swift action, warning that failure to secure the release could erode trust in state authorities and potentially worsen regional tensions.

“If these individuals are harmed, it will appear as a tacit endorsement by the authorities, further deepening public mistrust,” stated the DMCC, adding that unresolved tensions could fuel perceptions of government complicity in perpetuating division within Manipur. The group highlighted concerns over the growing ethnic divide, expressing that the ongoing situation is endangering peace in the region.
