The 12th edition of the Manipur Sangai Festival drew to a close on November 30 with a vibrant ceremony at the Bhagyachandra Open-Air Theatre, marking the end of one of the state’s most significant cultural events. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who graced the closing function, emphasised the festival’s growing role as a national and international platform for cultural exchange, tourism promotion, and global outreach.
Addressing a diverse gathering of tourism stakeholders, performers, and visitors from across India and abroad, Governor Bhalla said this year’s festival stood out for its message of “unity and cultural pride despite the challenges faced.” His remarks reflected the broader sentiment surrounding Manipur’s effort to preserve its cultural identity while navigating a complex social environment.
Bhalla highlighted the state government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening tourism through focused investments and improved infrastructure. He pointed out that Manipur’s tourism potential continues to expand as the government prioritises targeted promotion, modern facilities, and enhanced connectivity to attract domestic and international travellers.
“The festival has served as a vital outreach platform, bringing together tourism professionals, cultural ambassadors, and enthusiasts from within and outside India,” he said, noting that the interactions fostered during the event would contribute to long-term partnerships and tourism growth.
This year’s festival featured a wide array of activities, from indigenous sports competitions to film screenings, which together showcased the depth and diversity of Manipuri culture. Traditional dances, handicrafts, cuisine stalls, and musical performances drew large crowds, reinforcing the state’s rich artistic heritage.
Governor Bhalla also extended his gratitude to government departments, local organisers, and the people of Manipur for their coordinated efforts in executing the festival smoothly. Their cooperation, he said, reflects the state’s resilience and collective spirit.
