The Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) hosted a one-day capacity-building program for 45 newly empaneled panel lawyers at the ADR Building in Imphal West. The program, initiated by S. Mangaleibi Devi, Addl. Member Secretary, MASLSA, included three key sessions. The inaugural session, led by Alek Muivah, Member Secretary, emphasized the role and responsibilities of legal services lawyers, particularly their duty to serve the underprivileged and raise awareness about legal rights among marginalized communities. He highlighted the necessity for panel lawyers to visit legal services clinics and act as mentors to paralegal volunteers while maintaining professionalism and competency in their services. The second session, conducted by Shri W. Tonen Meitei, Judge of Special Court No. 2 (POCSO), focused on civil remedies, particularly injunctions. The final session, led by Shri Sorokhaibam Rabindra Singh, covered essential lawyering skills such as drafting and examination of witnesses. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Fakhrul Islam Choudhury, Deputy Member Secretary of MASLSA.
