A strong resentment and deep dissatisfaction over the continued disruption and blockade of the National Highway -202, Imphal-Ukhrul Road by armed Kuki militants has been expressed by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), terming the situation as completely unacceptable and a direct threat to the survival of the people dependent on the vital lifeline.
TKS strongly condemned the recent abduction of 21 Naga-passengers along the Imphal-Ukhrul stretch of the Highway, an incident that has sent shock waves across the region. The organisation expressed that the abduction reportedly occurred in the presence of Central security forces, raising serious questions over the credibility and effectiveness of forces entrusted with maintaining law and order. The incident triggered a widespread fear, anger and mistrust among the general public.
The apparent failure of the government authority to safeguard innocent civilians along such a crucial route, has significantly eroded public confidence to the concerned government authority, the organisation asserted in a press statement.
In response to the escalating crisis, TKS has issued a 24-hour Ultimatum to the government of Manipur, demanding a clear, credible, and unequivocal assurance of safety for all travellers along the Imphal-Ukhrul Road. The organisation called for immediate and visible measures to restore safe and unhindered movement, emphasizing that the government cannot afford to remain silent while the lives of its citizens are at risk.
